Widespread Verizon outage roils Northeast

Customers from the Bronx down to Philadelphia were affected
A widespread Verizon outage knocked customers off the internet from New York City to Baltimore Thursday morning.
According to the site Outage Report, a surge in calls reporting outages began shortly after midnight and began to surge by 6 a.m.
Verizon engineers identified a "software issue," behind the disruptions to Fios and wireless service, and had rectified the issue by 6:30 a.m., according to company spokesperson Kevin King, though many customers took to social media to complain they were still down after that time.
"We continue to monitor the situation," King said.
Outage Report’s map of the complaints showed affected customers across New York City, Northern New Jersey, Long Island, as well as Philadelphia, D.C., Boston and Baltimore, but Verizon only confirmed the software issue affected parts New York and New Jersey.
Complaints started to pour in over social media platforms Thursday morning, with customers wondering when their service would be restored.

“We are aware there is an issue and do apologize for the inconvenience,” the company said in a tweet.
