Jan. 26, 2012, 12:57 p.m.

Greg Kelly, the co-host of Fox 5's "Good Day New York" and son of NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly, has been accused of rape by a woman he met on the street one night last October.

Greg Kelly, the co-anchor of Fox 5’s "Good Day New York" and son of NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly, has been accused of rape by a woman he met on the street downtown one night last October. The unidentified woman, who is in her late 20s or early 30s, says that Kelly took her to a bar at the South Street Seaport. After several drinks, she says they went to the Lower Manhattan law firm where she works, and there Kelly proceeded to rape her. Kelly has not been charged. [Update, January 27:] Sources claim Kelly has "flirtatious" texts from the accuser while others question the accuser's credibility. [Update, 1/28:] Now it's reported that the accuser's brother works for the NYPD.

The encounter did not come to light until the woman's boyfriend learned about the night and, the Times reports, he "became angry. He then approached the police commissioner at a public event and told him that the younger Mr. Kelly had sexually assaulted his girlfriend. The commissioner, according to the woman’s account, told him to write a letter."

NYPD spokesman Paul Browne says the Commissioner recalls the encounter with the woman's boyfriend, but according to his account, the boyfriend told the Commissioner that his son "ruined my girlfriend’s life." A close friend of the alleged victim told ABC News that the woman has been “an emotional cripple” since the incident. On Tuesday night, three months after the alleged rape, the woman reported the alleged rape at the 13th Precinct station house.

Because of the obvious conflict of interest, the NYPD has turned the investigation over to the Manhattan D.A.'s office. Kelly, 43, denies the accusation, and, again, he has not been charged. His whereabouts are currently unknown. Before joining Fox 5, Kelly was a White House reporter and an Iraq war correspondent. Prior to his career in journalism, he served in the Marines for nine years as a fighter pilot. Greg Kelly's attorney issued this statement last night:

Mr. Kelly is aware that the New York County District Attorney's Office is conducting an investigation. Mr. Kelly strenuously denies any wrongdoing and is cooperating fully with the district attorney's investigation. We know that the district attorney's investigation will prove Mr. Kelly's innocence.

Kelly's "Good Day New York" colleague Rosanna Scotto told the Post, "I love Greg, that's all I can say."

Update: According to DNAinfo, the accuser "also claims she became pregnant as a result of the alleged sexual assault" at her law office. "The accuser, who is not a lawyer, told police that she was virtually passed out when Kelly, the co-host of Fox 5's 'Good Day New York,' allegedly sexually assaulted her last Oct. 8 at her Wall Street-connected firm." The sources also "described [her] as a credible 'professional person' who said she ended her pregnancy."
