A possible track fire near the 28th Street Station in Manhattan is causing delays and service changes and disseminating a funky, smoky smell between 28th and 34th Streets on the N/Q/R/W line, according to the FDNY and witnesses.

"When the doors opened at 34th Street there was a plastic-y burning smell," said one Gothamist reporter who took the Q train north this morning. Other riders compared the smell to a deep fryer, a campfire and, in keeping with the Fourth of July theme, a possible Macy's fire (to be clear, there is no indication that Macy's is on fire).

The FDNY responded to 6th Avenue and West 32nd Street at 8:24 a.m. following reports of a possible track fire, a spokesperson said. No injuries were reported.

Northbound R and W trains ran express temporarily from Canal Street to 57th Street-7th Avenue, according to the MTA. Service has now been restored, with residual delays.

Some riders appear to have been evacuated at 28th Street, raising the age old question, "Will I ever get to work?"

For those keeping a subway diary, at least it's Friday!
