Earlier today, anyone wishing to travel by subway had to first ford the Majestic Lake of Filth, enlisting a strapping friend or stranger or stranger's dog to lift them to safety. Recall this scene from Brooklyn's High Street station:

But lo! Just as a slab of rock in the middle of a majestic mountain creek provides a perfect path for hikers, so too does this grubby slab of concrete, which some noble Samaritan placed in the High Street riverbed for easier crossing.
