Several subway lines were disrupted on Thursday morning as the suspect in a shooting on the Upper West Side fled into the transit system, according to police.

NYPD officials said a 47-year-old man was shot in the shoulder and leg by an unknown person at around 9:15 a.m., near West 68th Street and Columbus Avenue.

The victim was taken to Mount Sinai Morningside Hospital in stable condition, according to police. The suspect ran into the subway at the 72nd Street and Central Park West station.

Police said the investigation was continuing, and did not make any immediate arrests.

Service was disrupted or rerouted on the A, B, C and D lines, as well as southbound M7 and M11 buses.

A video obtained by the New York Times showed passengers ducking between train seats as police searched for the suspect in the subway on Thursday.

The 20th Precinct — which encompasses the Upper West Side and includes landmark institutions like Lincoln Center and the American Museum of Natural History — has reported a doubling in shooting incidents so far this year compared to the same period last year, at four compared to two, according to NYPD data. The data does not yet include Thursday’s shooting.

Gothamist’s map of shootings across the city over the last four years shows no gun violence was recorded between Columbus Avenue and Central Park West from West 50th to 91st streets, where police said the incident on Thursday occurred.
