Animal shelter employees named the dog “Hudson.”

The search for a dog’s owner continued into Monday after the canine was rescued from the East River Sunday morning.
Officers from the NYPD’s Harbor Unit pulled the pup from the water near South Street Seaport. The police department posted photos from the scene of the rescue and asked the public for help in finding the dog’s family. The dog appeared soaked and wrapped in a blanket.

The NYPD received a 911 call Sunday morning about a dog in the East River, according to a police department spokesperson. She said the dog was rescued at 8:11 a.m. and taken to Pier 16.
The NYPD spokesperson said the dog did not appear to be injured at the time of rescue and was taken to Manhattan Animal Control before being transferred to Animal Care Centers of NYC. Katy Hansen, a spokesperson for the shelter, said the dog was given the name “Hudson,” despite being found in a different body of water, and appears to be in good health.
