Let's be clear, it is still a crime to sleep with a minor while in a foreign country. For example: Bergen County police last night arrested two chaperones from the Paramus Catholic High School Belgium/Germany exchange program, 27-year-old Michael Sumulikoski and 31-year-old Artur Sopel, for allegedly engaging in "inappropriate sexual contact" with three female students on the ten-day February jaunt abroad. A fourth girl has also come forward to say she had sexual activities with Sopel last spring while she was a student at the school. Both men are faculty members, and alumni, of the Paramus Catholic High School.

The arrests came after a month-long investigation into the duo, both of whom were reportedly athletic "stars in their day" at the school. The married Sopel, a Vice President of Operations at the school, reportedly engaged in sexual activities with two students on the trip while teacher and assistant varsity football coach Sumulikoski is accused of having done so with just one girl on the trip. The encounters are said to have occurred in Germany. Both are being charged with sexual assault, child endangerment and hindering apprehension.

The Bergen County prosecutor wants to remind you that the pair are innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. In the meantime, the pair spent last night in jail and are expected in Central Municipal Court in Hackensack later today.
