The man, 50, is alive in stable condition, police said.

Police say they shot and hospitalized a 50-year-old man in Canarsie on Friday night — after he allegedly raised a gun at officers while trying to outrun them.
Police said the man ran out of a convenience store at East 80th Street near Flatlands Avenue around 9:45 p.m. on Friday, shortly after officers patrolling the area heard a gunshot nearby. It’s unclear if the man was responsible for the shot officers heard.
Officers pursued the man and he ignored their instructions, according to Chief of Patrol Philip Rivera, who spoke to reporters early Saturday morning.
“The male then ran behind a tree and pointed his firearm at a uniformed sergeant. Four members discharged their firearms at the male,” Rivera said. “The male was struck in the torso and taken into custody.”
The man was taken to Brookdale University Hospital Medical Center in critical condition, according to officials. Police said he was in stable condition later Saturday morning.
Officers were unharmed , according to police. A second gun — which police said was an unregistered “ghost gun” — was also found in the convenience store.
Police had yet to release the man’s identity by Saturday morning.
