Police on Monday were looking for a female suspect in an alleged anti-white hate crime that happened early Friday on a subway train in Queens and left the victim with a concussion.
According to the NYPD, an unidentified woman approached a 28-year-old female passenger around 7:30 a.m. on a Flushing-bound 7 train passing through the 69th Street station on Roosevelt Avenue in Woodside.
Unprovoked, the woman allegedly called the victim out for being white and used profanity before kicking her in the face, police said. The attack caused the victim a mild concussion and bruising but she declined medical attention at the scene, per the NYPD.
Police said the alleged assailant was seen on surveillance video immediately after the incident wearing black spandex and a black jacket. The NYPD’s Hate Crimes Task Force is investigating the incident.
While police and community organizations are carefully monitoring anti-Jewish and anti-Muslim hate crimes in the wake of Hamas’ Oct. 7th attack on Israel, anti-white bias incidents remain relatively rare, according to police data.
The NYPD’s Hate Crimes Dashboard recorded 11 confirmed hate incidents against white people from January through June of this year, compared to 21 anti-Black and 108 anti-Jewish incidents in the same time period. Five anti-Muslim attacks were recorded in the first half of this year.
The NYPD is asking those with information about Friday’s incident to call the Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477), or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782). The public can also submit tips at the Crime Stoppers website, or on X to @NYPDTips.
A rise in religious hate crime, bias in NY since the Israel-Hamas war? The picture’s murky.
