NYC returns to winter: gusty winds, plummeting temperatures… and maybe even snow
Feb. 24, 2023, 8:25 a.m.
After days of unseasonably warm weather, the weekend brings frosty temperatures with flurries in the forecast.

Gusty winds of up to 37 miles per hour will blow a cold front across New York City on Friday, with a chance of snow flurries by Saturday.
Temperatures will tumble from the 40s on Friday morning to the low 20s throughout the evening. Blustery winds will make it feel as cold as 10 degrees, according to National Weather Service meteorologist Jay Engle.
There’s a chance of light snowfall throughout the day Saturday, though the city is unlikely to see any accumulation, with temperatures only climbing into the low 30s, according to the NWS.
On Monday, there’s also a slight chance of snow, though temperatures are expected to climb back to the 40s. Any precipitation is likely to turn into rain by Monday afternoon.
Temperatures will then begin to rebound later in the weekend with another chance of snow and rain showers. The next more organized storm system is slated for late Monday into Tuesday. At this time it looks like a wintry mix potentially changing to rain in most places. pic.twitter.com/k2NvmooSoT

Looking ahead, meteorologists are watching a storm system headed to the New York area toward the end of next week, though Engle said it was too soon to predict any snowfall accumulation.
So far this February, the average temperature has been 49.9 degrees in Central Park, about 7 degrees warmer than usual, according to the NWS.
New York City experienced its latest arriving snowfall earlier this month, ending a 328-day streak without any measurable snowfall in the city.
