Our frequently updated guide will track key policy positions from the mayoral hopefuls.

New year, new … mayor?

In a rare bind for an incumbent mayor, Eric Adams is facing a crowded field of primary challengers while he battles federal charges and navigates a cascade of scandals. With the June primary fast approaching, the candidates running to unseat Adams have already started to unveil policy proposals and tell New Yorkers where they stand on the issues that matter most to New Yorkers – like housing, education, policing, transportation and immigration.

Over the next several months, New Yorkers will learn more about what their options are: what kind of executive each candidate would be, and how they might each reshape the city. So we’re launching a policy tracker, similar to one we introduced in 2021, to help you keep track. Consider it a “cheat sheet” for voters that shows where candidates differ and agree – and a record of their stances.

Gothamist has been closely following how the candidates talk about top issues — and what they’re promising constituents. The contenders have started attending mayoral forums, where they get a chance to explain their positions, and we’ve begun posing questions to them and their campaigns. Adams has yet to attend a forum, although he said he plans to in the future. But as the incumbent, he already has the biggest platform for his ideas and his agenda.

We will be updating the tracker until the primary on June 25, 2025. And we’d love to hear your questions for the candidates. Send them to tips@gothamist.com. Be sure to include your name and neighborhood — and if possible, record a voice memo of yourself asking your question.

Here are some of the candidates’ stances so far on housing, transportation, immigration and policing. Check back as we add more.
