NJ Transit operator killed, several injured after train strikes downed tree

At least 16 people were injured, New Jersey Transit says, and police are investigating the incident.

A New Jersey Transit train operator died after a train struck a fallen tree on the tracks in Burlington County early Monday morning, officials say.

New Jersey Transit says the River Line train was near Roebling Station just after 6 a.m. when the incident happened. At least 23 people were injured and more than 40 people were on board the train, officials said. Most injuries were minor.

Photos from WPVI in Philadelphia show damage to the front of the train and a large piece of a tree on the tracks.

Service on the River Line was suspended between Florence and Trenton. New Jersey Transit police are investigating the accident.
