Male model Renato Seabra confessed yesterday to the brutal killing of 65-year-old Portuguese journalist Carlos Castro and has been charged with second-degree murder. He also went into chilling detail about why and how he beat and castrated Castro. One police source told the Daily News, "He said he did it to get rid of [Castro's] homosexual demons."
Seabra admitted to removing Castro's testicles with a corkscrew after plunging the device into one of Castro's eyes. After beating Castro unconscious, he then allegedly took a shower and slit his wrists at some point before he left the InterContinental hotel room. Though it was suspected that Seabra and Castro were a couple, Seabra told police, "I'm not gay anymore!" Seabra's mother seems to have a conflicting story, saying, "My son was not Carlos Castro's lover. From the beginning, he never hid his sexuality, which is heterosexual." She described him as shy and religious, and said, "My son, being a golden boy, who is so good, he didn't do this."
Seabra is currently at Bellevue Hospital Center for a psychiatric evaluation and to be treated for the self-inflicted cuts to his wrists.
