Police respond to the scene of a shooting in Brooklyn on Monday evening.

A 37-year-old man was fatally shot in the head in front of a Brooklyn deli on Monday, police said.

The NYPD responded to a call of a man shot around 4:15 p.m. Monday near the corner of Franklin Avenue and Lincoln Place in Crown Heights, officials said. That's where they found the man with a gunshot wound to the head, according to police. He was taken to Kings County hospital, where he later was pronounced dead, officials said.

Authorities identified the victim as Nazim Berry from Cypress Hills, Brooklyn. Police said he was shot during a dispute over a Black & Mild cigar.

“I can’t believe he’s gone," said Berry's mother Danette Hollie, 58. "I can’t believe this is happening if right now. I can’t believe it. Like, you really killed my son over a cigarette? You take Nazim from me over a cigarette? His life is worth a cigarette?”

The victim's mother is comforted at the scene of the shooting on Monday night.

Officers were seen investigating the scene of the shooting on Monday evening, with a portion of the sidewalk in front of a corner deli sectioned off from the public.

“He loved this store right here, he loved coming to work with these people," Hollie said of her son, who had worked at the deli. “Beautiful person. When I say beautiful, I’m going to miss him.”

Authorities identified the victim as Nazim Berry from Cypress Hills, Brooklyn.

Jesse Marks, 31, lives across the street from the scene and said he was working from home when he heard a gunshot. He went to his window and saw a man laying on the ground with a wound to his head, Marks said.

“This is the first time I’ve heard anything — that’s what especially alerted me to it — this is the first time that sounded akin to a gunshot." Marks told Gothamist.

A vigil is arranged at the scene where a man was fatally shot in Brooklyn on Monday.

But longtime neighborhood residents said it wasn’t that long ago that shootings were more common in the area.

No arrests had been made as of Monday night, and an investigation was ongoing, according to the authorities.
