The Port Authority says Newark-WTC trains face delays, while other lines remain operational.

Commuters are held as they wait to board PATH trains on Thursday, Jan. 23, 2025.

PATH service between Hoboken and the World Trade Center was suspended through the evening rush hour on Thursday due to ongoing repairs, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey said.

Crews reported a broken rail between Exchange Place and the World Trade Center, causing disruptions on the PATH system, officials said. Newark-to-WTC trains were operating on a 20-minute schedule, while Hoboken-to-33rd Street and Journal Square-to-33rd Street lines remained operational, the Port Authority said on social media.

NJ Transit rail was cross-honoring PATH at Hoboken, Newark and New York Penn Station, officials said. The Hudson-Bergen Light Rail was also honoring PATH at Exchange Place, Hoboken and Newport. The Port Authority said NY Waterway ferries will accept PATH at Hoboken, Paulus Hook and Brookfield Place.

At the World Trade Center, the Port Authority Police Department may intermittently disable turnstiles to manage crowding and ensure passenger safety, officials said.

Thursday’s transit meltdown comes shortly after news that the PATH train station in Hoboken will close for most of February as it undergoes construction. Meanwhile, the Port Authority said it plans to offer more ferry service during peak travel hours and free shuttle buses to the Newport and Exchange Place PATH stations in Jersey City.
