Heavy rain and wind advisory for NYC area Sunday night into Monday
Dec. 16, 2023, 3:12 p.m.
Officials have issued weather advisories in anticipation of heavy rain and winds throughout the city and southern areas of the state.

Heavy rain and winds will come down on the New York metro area on Sunday night heading into Monday morning, according to the National Weather Service.
Forecasts call for up to 55 mile per hour winds, which will be most intense along the coasts, but Brooklyn and Queens could still get sustained winds of 25 to 35 mph that could bring down tree branches and power lines. Wind advisories are in place from midnight Sunday to noon Monday.
Light rains will begin on Sunday morning, intensify in the early afternoon, and give way to heavy rainfall later that evening. Inland areas north and west of New York City, including southwest Connecticut, are expected to receive the most rain.
The combination of heavy rains, high winds, and high tides is especially risky for low-lying coastal areas, which are vulnerable to flooding.

The city issued a travel advisory and Mayor Eric Adams warned New Yorkers to secure loose outdoor objects against the intense winds.
Gov. Kathy Hochul also issued a warning for the Mid-Hudson Valley, eastern Catskills, southern Capital Region, and parts of Long Island, and urged residents to prepare for potential flooding and power outages.
