Artie Lange's Violent Suicide Attempt

Howard Stern sidekick and comic Artie Lange is in the hospital after a violent suicide attempt. This doesn't seem like one of those "cry for help" suicide attempts either; Lange actually stabbed himself 9 times. The NY Post reports that his mom called 911 Saturday morning after stopping by his Hoboken apartment to drop off food, only to find her son heavily bleeding with stab wounds.

All in all the 42-year-old "sustained six hesitation wounds and three deep plunges," but surgeons managed to save him. Stern said on his show this week: "We all have our demons. Artie has given this show tremendous moments of great comedy. He's a tremendous contributor. He is a good man. Don't forget how great he is."

Lange had recently canceled several stand-up gigs, including one on New Year's Eve, and in October suffered what he called a “mini-nervous breakdown” and near-relapse into drug addiction.
