16-year-old killed, child injured in Queens hit-and-run, police say

A 16-year-old girl was killed and an 8-year-old girl was hospitalized after a fatal hit-and-run in Queens, police said on Wednesday.
The incident occurred around 3:27 p.m. at 46-02 47th Ave. in Woodside, according to the NYPD.
Authorities said a white Ford truck struck the victims in a crosswalk as the driver made a right onto the 46th Street intersection. The driver proceeded to travel southbound on 46th Street, leaving the scene, police said.
The 16-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS workers while the 8-year-old, who sustained injuries, was taken to NewYork-Presbyterian hospital, police said.
There were no arrests as of Wednesday evening and the investigation remains ongoing, officials said.
Last month, transportation advocates said 2024 was already one of the deadliest years for Queens streets in the Vision Zero era.
