The girl is in stable condition and is expected to survive.
A 12-year-old girl was slashed inside a Bronx middle school on Wednesday morning, just 24 hours after another teen was stabbed inside his Brooklyn high school, police said.
At approximately 9:40 a.m. police officers responded to a 911 call at J.H.S. 123 James M. Kieran in Soundview, where they found the girl with a wound in her right leg. She was transported to Jacobi Medical Center and is expected to recover, police said.
Police arrested a “person of interest” in the case, according to an NYPD spokesperson.
Just 24 hours earlier, a 15-year-old boy was stabbed by his classmate inside a Brooklyn high school.
He was hospitalized with a stab wound in his abdomen and is expected to survive. Police arrested the suspect, another 15-year-old boy at the high school who they say got into an argument with the victim, on Tuesday.
There have been 51 violent felonies inside the city’s schools since July this school year. In 2022, there were 136 incidents during the school year — up more than 200% from 2019, when there were only 60 violent felonies through the school year. This school year’s full numbers won’t be available until after June 2024.
