Videos: Saturday Night Live Celebrates Mother's Day & Jon Snow With Brie Larson

May 8, 2016, 1:30 p.m.

SNL tackled the origin of mom haircuts, Jon Snow's resurrection, near-death experiences, Ted Cruz's weak chin, President Barbie, and more.

Saturday Night Live returned after a few weeks off with the first of the final three episodes of season 41. Host Brie Larson, joined by musical guest Alicia Keys, guided us through a Mother's Day-heavy episode, which featured lots of cameos by castmembers' moms (Pete Davidson's mom in particular was adorable) and a particularly funny sketch about the origin of mom haircuts.

Although it didn't quite reach the heights of mother-loving that last season's Reese Witherspoon-hosted Mother's Day episode did (which included the sweetest SNL Monologue of recent years), this was a funnier episode, with at least three must-see sketches. SNL nailed Game Of Thrones to the spoiler cross with a very funny (and accurate) post-Weekend Update sketch all about Jon Snow's resurrection (if you don't know by now, how are you possibly on the Internet?).

Kate McKinnon was the all-star of the week (as ever) thanks to Near-Death Experience, a reprisal of her alien-abducted character from the Ryan Gosling gigglefest episode (this time, it was Aidy Bryant who broke first). And Quiz Whiz 2018 was an unexpected way of having one more potshot at Ted Cruz, and included the best ending/kicker of any SNL sketch in recent memory.

On top of those three, you can throw in the Baby Shower sketch about sensible mom haircuts, the New Barbie commercial, and Dana Carvey's return as the Church Lady among the good sketches of the night. There was also the return of Kyle Mooney's Chris Fitzpatrick with his new band Discreet Annihilation (who are trying to find their 5-track EP), a sweet-but-slightly-awkward Monologue, and great work by both Vanessa Bayer (as recurring character Laura Parsons) and Sasheer Zamata (as herself! And despite being very visibly nervous, she was really good talking about Larry Wilmore's N-word controversy!) on Weekend Update.

Click through for all those sketches, plus a Hologram Album sketch featuring Roy Orbison singing Justin Bieber, and music from Alicia Keys. Next week, Drake handles double-duty as host and musical guest, followed the week after by the season finale with host Fred Armisen and musical guest Courtney Barnett.
