This Map Says There Are Basically No Mets Fans, Not Even In NYC

Sorry Mets, New Yorkers prefer pinstripes.

Doesn't it seem like everyone is always saying they're a Mets fan? A deep dig in to team dedication shows that most New Yorkers prefer pinstripes, however. The NY Times used aggregated data provided by Facebook "to create an unprecedented look at the geography of baseball fandom, going down not only to the county level, but also to ZIP codes." While the map clearly shows the Munson-Nixon line in Connecticut, team dedication is so one-sided in New York City that no line can be drawn. And the Mets don't even show up on the nationwide map:
The NY Times delivers the cold, hard facts: "The Yankees are the preferred team everywhere in New York City, and nearly everywhere in the U.S. over the Mets (in more than 98 percent of ZIP codes nationwide)." (Can we get some comparison maps for '69 and '86?) The area around Citi Field shows the most Mets fans in one NYC zip code... but is still only 25% to the Yankees 53%.
A quick poll of the Gothamist office and Twitter showed New Yorkers prefer the Bronx Bombers over the Kings of Queens... but it was nearly an even split (by one), so maybe this map is just a Map of Lies.
