The Bronx also became the first borough outside of Manhattan to get a "pride crosswalk."

As the city gets ready for the big World Pride Weekend, crowds came out for the Bronx Pride Parade on Sunday. One marcher told News 12, "Gay people in Uganda, gay people in Rwanda, gay people in Ukraine, gay people all over the world are standing up and saying ‘we're here.'"

The parade started at Grand Concourse and East 161st Street and ended at Third Avenue and 149th Street, where the 1 Bronx World Pride Rally and Festival was held. Politicians like State Senator Alessandra Biaggi, Senator Chuck Schumer, and Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez showed their support:

Ocasio-Cortez and others referenced Layleen Polanco, the trans woman who died at Rikers earlier this month:

A dream come true. (note image is a rendering). Earlier this month we reached out to Councilman @Salamancajr80 asking how The Bronx could get a rainbow crosswalk for #Pride. Manhattan has one so why can't we? He was immediately on board with the idea and I reached out to Michael Brady executive director of the @thirdavenuebid who took it from there and reached out to the necessary city agencies. A week later we were told NO by the city but then after enough prodding and persistence thanks to Michael and others, we got it approved! We still can't believe it until it actually happens. Who knew that a simple "could we do this?" would become a reality. Happy #Pride to our beautiful borough of The Bronx! More details at Welcome2thebronx.com #welcome2thebronx
