If you are a frequent Gothamist reader, you may have noticed that the site looks different today. If not, welcome to Gothamist! Here's a note from two members of the Gothamist Digital Team—Kate Statton, Product Manager, and Laura Galbraith, Lead Product Designer—explaining what's going on.

We are excited to announce the launch of the newly redesigned Gothamist website, bringing you the same great New York City stories you love, but with a fresh new look, faster page speed, and more!

WHAT'S CHANGED

A Fresh, New Design: The last time Gothamist updated its design was 2016! Based on much research (see below) and our own love of the site, we made sure that our great reporting and genuine approach to life in NYC remained the highlight as we redesigned the site’s different pages and created a new style. You'll see a slew of new functionality and design elements around the site. Here are some highlights.

The new design

Faster Page Speed: Now Gothamist pages will load faster than ever before. This means it'll be easier and more frictionless to get the news you want, when you want it, regardless of your terribly slow subway WiFi.

A Site That’s Friendly for All Devices: Gothamist.com has been updated to work properly across any devices, whether you are reading on your phone at the park or checking in from your desk at the office.

Easier Tip Submission: Gothamist works best when readers are involved, offering story tips, photos, questions, and feedback—now there are handy “Contact Us” and “Submit a Tip” buttons all over the site.

Spotlight on Related Stories: It's easier to find stories you love: Now popular and featured stories that relate to whatever you are reading are just one click away.

Improved Legibility and Comprehension: Added spacing between text and other page elements makes our articles easier to read for all audience members. A simple change like that can help with reading comprehension!

New, More Prominent Donation Asks: Since joining WNYC, Gothamist has become a non-profit publisher. That means we rely on help from readers like you to keep publishing local news every day. Members are a critical part of our sustainable news model, which also includes sponsorship and philanthropy.

HOW WE'RE STILL THE SAME

At our core, we're still the same Gothamist we have always been—we've simply had a makeover. The team continues to deliver the same high-quality NYC coverage you’ve come to know and love. Keep sending us those story tips at tips@gothamist.com!

HOW WE GOT HERE

A little over year ago, after WNYC and Gothamist partnered to bring Gothamist back online, our NYC-based digital product development team of die-hard Gothamist fans joined forces with the Gothamist editorial staff, and with you, the audience, to take a deep dive into what makes Gothamist tick. From on-site surveys to in-person interviews at events (not to mention developing "user personas" and running "Journey Mapping exercises"), we tried to learn everything about what readers enjoy about Gothamist—and what we could do to make it better.

WHAT'S NEXT

The new Gothamist will continue to evolve over the next few months, and we want your feedback! Let us know what you think and how we might improve in our survey here. You can, as always, comment below or tweet at us or send us an email, too. The team will be working hard to respond to your feedback — you all make up as much of what makes Gothamist Gothamist as the team here at our office!
