A “prolonged stretch of unsettled” conditions will keep things wet, the National Weather Service says.

“Unsettled” is how the National Weather Service describes the wet, stormy conditions the New York City area will likely get through next Tuesday, with around an inch of total rainfall estimated by Sunday night.

“We’re gonna have a complex funnel system kind of stall to our west this weekend, and that’s going to result in a prolonged stretch of unsettled weather,” said NWS meteorologist Jay Engle.

Friday will be partially sunny, and there’s a 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2 p.m., Engle said. The city and areas to its west will have temperatures in the low- and mid-80s, while those in coastal regions will be in at least the upper 60s, followed by a cooldown in the evening.

Saturday brings the highest chance of rain, especially in the late afternoon and at night, according to the NWS. Temperatures could get into the 80s across the metro area before dropping into the low- and mid-60s.

Storms will continue on Sunday, particularly after 2 p.m., Engle said. He added that there will be a 60-80% chance of showers late that night through Tuesday.

“It may not be raining the entire time, but it will be raining most of the time,” he said. “Maybe some areas that don’t drain well might have some flooding issues, but overall we’re not overly concerned with widespread flooding at this time.”

A 30% chance of showers will remain on Wednesday, and temperatures will decline into the lower 70s, according to the forecast.
